Crawl Space before
A crawlspace before the work of insulating and encapsulation has begun. Note the dingy floor and damaged insulation.
Crawl Space before - rotting insulation
As you can see, the insulation on the walls of this crawlspace has pulled clean off, now sitting on the floow growing mold. The insulation installed in the floof bays is no better, drooping down and ripped.
Crawl Space after
The same crawlspace after the encapsulation is complete. The walls have been insulated with 2" foam board, the floor is fully covered and sealed with CleanSpace plastic vapor barrier, and the rim joists have been treated with high-density foam, creating a conditioned space out of a wet pile of dirt.
Crawl space after
Another shot of the completed crawlspace. Note the pillar in the midground, taped along the seam of the vapor barrior. Crawlspace encapsulation should be as complete as possible to ensure no moisture can escape through the floor.
Crawl space after
Another shot of the (fairly substantial) finished crawlspace.
