New furnace and water heater
A 96% effecient furnace and 70% effecient power vented water heater side-by-side. Note the sealed vent pipes on the back wall, as both appliances are now vented in PVC pipe.

New 96% furnace
A newly installed, 96% efficient furnace. Vented in PVC pipe, the ductwork has been sealed at the joints, ensuring the air flows where it needs to go.

Attic insulation, finished view
A nice view of the finished attic platform and insulation, neat and clean.

Attic insulation
A half open, half platform attic. A barrier was built around the deck and sealed, ensuring that no insulation falls through. The deck has cellulose insulation dense-packed underneath, both providing a thermal barrier and preventing air leaks. Then, loose fill cellulose is added to the areas around the platform, to the reccomended R-value of 48-60.

New power-vented water heater
A modern tank water heater, vented in PVC pipe with an inducer motor. The effeciency rating of these models is 70%, considerably higher than the 54% of an old, atmospheric vent model.

Finished attic SuperDeck
Here is an example of a finished attic platform. First, a sublayer of plywood is put down. Then, 2" foam board is fitted over the plywood, providing an insulating factor of R-15. Finally, a top layer of plywood is attached, allowing for storage space. As part of a complete attic package, the bays along the platform are blocked off, and cellulose insulation is dense-packed underneath.
